AMSTERDAM, 5 February 2025 – EPC Engineering & Technologies GmbH, an international technology provider as well as an engineering and plant construction company, has signed a collaboration with Avantium N.V., a leader in renewable and circular polymer materials. This partnership aims to advance the continuous PEF polyester production technology, targeting plant capacities of 100’000 tons per annum and above. The collaboration will combine the expertise of both companies to commercialize continuous polymerization of PEF (“PEF cPol Technology”). EPC and Avantium will integrate their respective technologies and processes, together with the solid-state polymerization (SSP) of POLYMETRIX AG. The PEF cPol Technology will be included in Avantium’s  YXY^® Technology license package. EPC will provide plant design, engineering, process equipment and plant construction services to Avantium’s future licensees.

Avantium has developed its proprietary YXY^® Technology to produce FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid), the essential component for the fully plant-based and circular polymer PEF (polyethylene furanoate). PEF is branded by Avantium as releaf^®. Avantium is currently in the process of starting up the world’s first commercial FDCA plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. This FDCA Flagship Plant will play a crucial role in Avantium’s commercialization and licensing strategy. The commercial FDCA plant allows Avantium to sell FDCA and releaf^® directly to offtake partners, while also offering technology licenses at full scale to industrial partners worldwide.  Under such a technology license, industrial partners can produce FDCA and PEF in large-scale production facilities using Avantium’s proprietary YXY^® Technology.

EPC Engineering & Technologies and Avantium already worked together in 2017, when EPC developed a conceptual design for a 25’000 tons per annum PEF continuous polymerization plant. This conceptual design served as the starting point for the Joint Development Agreement to further scale the polymerization technology to 100’000 tons per annum and above. POLYMETRIX will contribute with its continuous solid state polymerization know-how. With this collaboration, Avantium is able to extend its YXY^® Technology license package to the full continuous PEF production process including performance guarantees at industrial scale, whether greenfield, brownfield or retrofit plant.

EPC Engineering & Technologies is celebrating a special event this year: 30 years of success, innovation and partnership!
But instead of presents, the anniversary celebration focussed on something else – supporting the Central German Children’s Hospice.
In a heartfelt campaign, EPC set up a donation account to support the children’s hospice in Tambach-Dietharz.
The hospice offers terminally ill children and their families compassionate care and a place of security.
Thanks to the generous support of the invited business partners and guests, as well as an additional rounding up of the donation amount by EPC, an impressive sum of 5,000 euros was raised.

EPC Engineering & Technologies will be attending the 25th INDIA Petrochem Conference on 15^th and 16^th October at the Hotel The Lalit, Mumbai. Looking forward to a very exciting presentation from EPC with insights on “Advanced Solutions for the Polymer Producing Industry”, held by our Technology Director, Mr.Michael Streng.

It continues directly afterwards with the IndiaChem 2024 – 13th Biennial International Exhibition & Conference / India.

The Institute of Textile Technology (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University was founded in 1934 to meet the growing demand for higher technological education in the Aachen region, which was characterised by advanced industrialisation, particularly in textile production. The institute focuses on mechanical engineering and textile process engineering, polymer technology and high-performance fibre materials, textile preforming and fibre composites, medical technology, smart textiles and joining technology as well as simulation and measurement technology. In addition, numerous other industrial sectors such as the sporting goods industry are served with targeted innovations for new processes and textile materials.

A significant milestone for the European industry: AMG Lithium has successfully commissioned Europe’s first lithium hydroxide refinery. This pioneering plant marks an important step towards a more sustainable and independent battery raw material supply, especially for the electric vehicle and energy storage industry.

We at EPC Engineering & Technologies are particularly proud to have made a significant contribution to this success as general contractor. With our many years of experience and expertise in plant construction, we were able to support the project from the planning stage through to implementation and turnkey handover. Special thanks are due to our colleagues at EPC, our sister company HI-Bauprojekt GmbH and all the companies involved in this project.

With a festive gala award event in Würzburg/Germany under the motto “With confidence towards the future”, the first part of the 30th competition for the “Großer Preis des Mittelstandes 2024”, which is under the patronage of former German Federal Minister of Finance, Peer Steinbrück, came to a successful conclusion on Saturday, 21^st September 2024, with almost 400 guests from 7 federal states. The Oskar Patzelt Foundation recognises the outstanding achievements of medium-sized companies throughout Germany and awards the “Großer Preis des Mittelstandes” business prize every autumn. The “Finalist” and “Winner” prizes as well as a special prize are awarded to outstanding companies and institutions in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin/Brandenburg, Hesse, Saxony and Thuringia.

The directors of the Oskar Patzelt Foundation, Dr Helfried Schmidt and Petra Tröger, honoured 24 companies as “Finalists”, 15 companies as “Winners” and one municipality with the special “Municipality of the Year” award.

This was EPC’s first time attending CHINAPLAS as an exhibitor, but most definitely not the last. Many more to come!
